Nanoscale miniaturization of semiconductor devices has brought self-heating effect due to the thermalization of hot carriers generated by high electric fields. This self-heating effect result in significant reduction lifetimes of the devices. Moreover, the refrigeration of the entire system is extremely power consuming. The development of a new generation of efficient nanocoolers is then one of the major scientific and environmental issues. It represents the core research topic of GELATO.
